he 2015 Mack’s Run for the Apples 5K Cross-Country Race will keep the tradition alive when it’s run on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 5 p.m.
Registration will begin at 4 p.m. at Mack’s Apples on Route 128 (Mammoth Road) in Londonderry, with the first 75 registrants receiving custom tank tops. Awards will be given out to age group winners and top overall finishers, and there are always lots of refreshments at the end of the race.
The registration fee is $15 per person and $30 for a family, which is considered to be two adults and unlimited children all living at the same address.
Race director Eldon Burkinshaw and the Greater Derry Track Club have termed the race “a scenic cross-country run through apple orchards and woods featuring gentle, rolling terrain.”
The 2014 race was run on a beautiful summer night, with 46-year-old Woburn, Mass., resident Mike Dimauro placing first in a time of 17 minutes and 5 seconds. His 16-year-old son Matt came in second overall, 33 seconds after his speedy dad.
But of even bigger local interest was the fact that 14-year-old, incoming Londonderry High freshman Kalin Gregoire was the first female finisher for the third year in a row – seventh overall – with her time of 20:15.
The freshman standout then went on to make some waves and gain high school running experience as an LHS Lady Lancer during the 2014-15 school year.
