The Londonderry Basketball Club (LBC) bounded into the most exciting segment of its 2015-16 season over the weekend of March 12 and 13, packing a Saturday and a Sunday full of recreational league playoff games that enabled the young cagers to try to end their campaigns with championships.
The LBC hosted 25 games over those two busy days – with contests being played at all three of the town’s elementary schools – and crowned winners at each of the different age levels.
“We had several close games, with the most exciting being the boys’ 3rd/4th (grade) division, which went into overtime just before the buzzer. Team 4 Green pulled out the victory in the end and won by one basket (over the Gray team),” said LBC vice-president of recreational basketball Rob Galan.
The boys’ 5th/6th grade title was collected by the Team 5 Green crew, and the boys’ 7-8 grade championship was snagged by the Team 6 Blue contingent.
In girls’ playoff action, the girls’ 3-4 title was snared by the Team 2 Purple cagers, the 5-6 championship was won by the Team 3 Blue crew, and the 7-10 title was tallied by the Team 4 Pink contingent.
The Londonderry Basketball Club runs a recreational basketball program for kids in grades one through 12 for both boys and girls, with one practice and one game per week for the squads.
