Candidates Will Face Off in November Following Recount

The Sept. 9 Primary attracted 2,415 Re-publican voters in Londonderry, who faced a variety of contested races, and 460 Democrats, whose only contested race was a challenge to incumbent Governor Maggie Hassan. Londonderry has a total of 15,979 registered voters.

The winners of the Sept. 9 Primary will face off in the Nov. 4 election.

In the uncontested Democratic race for State Senator, Rockingham District 14, covering Londonderry, Hudson and Auburn, Kate Messner of Hudson received 392 votes from Londonderry, 437 from Hudson and 113 from Auburn, for a total of 942. She will face incumbent Republican Sharon Carson, who received 1,739 votes from Londonderry, 1,359 from Hudson and 519 from Auburn for a total of 3,567.

For the Rockingham District 5 State Representative race, which has seven seats representing Londonderry, Republican winners were Al Baldasaro, 1,685 votes; David Lundgren, 1,348; Bob Introne, 1,337; Sherman Packard, 1,272; Daniel Tamburello, 1,127; Betsy McKinney, 1,049 and Doug Thomas, 868. Unsuccessful in their race were Deirdre Carson, 860; Roger Fillio, 649; and Dana Coons, 624.

Carson, who came in eighth, with only the first seven candidates going on to the November ballot, asked for and received a recount, which took place Monday, Sept. 15. While the numbers changed slightly, Carson was still out of contention by one vote.

The new totals from the Secretary of State’s office showed the winners to be the same: Baldasaro, 1,687 (up by two votes); Lundgren, 1,345 (down by three votes); Introne, 1,342 (up by five votes); Packard, 1,277 (up by five votes); Tamburello, 1,131 (up by four votes); McKinney, 1,057, up by eight votes; and Thomas, 867, down by one vote. They were followed by Carson, 866 (up by six votes); Fillio, 655, up by six votes; and Coons, 625, up by one vote.

“She came close but Thomas won by one vote,” said Baldasaro, who observed the recount. “The competition in this race was keen.”

The seven top vote-getters from the GOP will face Democrats Lisa Whittemore, 372; Denise Grady, 349; Ted Combes, 329; Gary Vermillion, 328; Tam Siekmann, 323; Robin Skudlarek, 322 and, Paul Skudlarek, 306, in November. The Democrats ran uncontested.
