The Manchester Cadet Squadron – Civil Air Patrol has found a home for their meetings at Londonderry North Elementary school, and last week, on Thursday, Sept. 8, the squadron had a change of command ceremony.
Captain Timothy Johnson relinquished his command to Captain Julie McAdoo of Salem.
Colonel Darin Ninness was on hand to assist with the change of command.
A number of cadets were present at the ceremony ranging in age from 12 to 18 living in the area.
CAP is a volunteer, non-profit organization that also serves as the civilian auxiliary to the U.S. Air Force. One of its three missions is developing youth through a cadet program. The program incorporates aviation and military customs and courtesies.
Young people develop into responsible citizens through their experiences as CAP cadets and become tomorrow’s aerospace leaders.
The Manchester Cadet Squadron is one of nine squadrons in New Hampshire and traces its history to the inception of the Civil Air Patrol with a fully staffed squadron at the then Grenier Army Air Field.
Until last year the squadron met weekly at the Aviation Museum but outgrew that venue, the found a new venue in Londonderry and this month the squadron began meeting there.
On Thursday, Sept. 22 the group will hold an Open House for anyone interested in aviation, youth leadership or service to the community. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. at North School and those interested should be between 12 and 18-years old.
