Clifford “Cliff” Hughes

Clifford J. Hughes, 88 of Londonderry and Naples, Fla., formerly of Meredith, NH and Sudbury, Mass., died April 26, 2014.

Born in Pawtucket, R.I., he attended Valley Forge Military Academy and Bentley College, Waltham, Mass.

He served in the United States Navy in Okinawa and China with the Naval Amphibious Assault Forces in World War II.

Cliff was a founding member of Millipore Corp. in Bedford, MA., from 1954-1970.

He leaves behind his wife, Grace and stepchildren, Almond and Joyce Osgood and family of Freemont, NH, and Grace Dunajski and family of Derry, NH.

He was married to Mary Noonan Hughes, deceased, and leaves his son, Clifford T. Hughes and his wife Nancy and family of Manchester, MA and his daughter, Maureen Hughes and her family of Marblehead, MA.

He leaves behind his sister-in-law Dorothy Noonan and her family, Debbie and Jeff Berry and family of Fort Myers, FL, and his nephew Dr. Tom and Mary Noonan and their family of Medfield, MA.

Cliff leaves behind his lifelong friends, Madeline and Bernie Lazaro and Norman and Betty Rhodes.  He leaves many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, of whom he was very fond.

Cliff was a kind, thoughtful, and generous man to everyone, especially young members of the military. He bought them a meal or a tank of gas whenever he encountered them. His parting words to everyone, however small the deed was, Thank You.

Assisting the family with arrangements is the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover St., Manchester.  By request of the family, there will be no calling hours. His life was celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 300 Route 25, Meredith on Wednesday, April 30, at 11 a.m., followed by burial in Meredith Village Cemetery.
