The heat kept the number of participants down, but the watermelon consumption was up during the third night of races this summer at the Greater Derry Track Club Kids Summer Fun Runs on Monday night, July 8, at the Londonderry High School track.
Area youngsters ages two-years and up took to the track competing in seven age categories in a variety of distances.
The free event happens each Monday night at the track with the nine through 13-year old divisions being recorded for an overall winner at the end of the season.
Each participating family is asked to donate a non-perishable food item as part of the registration.
Some familiar faces were once again in the top three of the races being recorded.
Nine-Year Old Results:
Girls:
Sasha Solovyev of Hudson took first for the third consecutive time; Second went to Vanessa Fongemie of Derry; and Mia Swenson of Londonderry was third.
Boys:
First was Sam Smith of Londonderry; Second was Ryder Sassone of Chester; Third was Trey Morse of Derry.
Ten-Year Old Results:
Girls:
First was Sydney Kingsland of Derry, Ryla Zatsky of Windham was Second; and Ryley Menard of Chester came in Third.
Boys:
First was Derek Bath of Derry; Second was Lucas Jonesinski of Londonderry; and third place went to Joziah Jorge of Derry.
11-Year Old Results:
Girls:
Cerie Girouard of Derry came in first and was the only runner at that age.
Boys:
First was Christopher Mercurio of Derry; Second, Andrew Solovyev of Hudson; Third was Brendan Kuncik of Derry.
12-Year Old Results:
Girls:
First was Eden Timinski of Londonderry; Second was Emma Wainwright of Derry.
Boys:
No one competed.
13-Year Old Results:
Girls:
First and only finisher was Isley Morrison of Londonderry.
Boys:
First went to Soren Jonesinski of Londonderry; Bennett MacCulloch of Londonderry was second; and Third went to Dillon Bath of Derry.
Races will continue each Monday until Aug. 5 with registration starting at 6 p.m. and races beginning at 6:30 p.m.
