Daniel Rivera

Daniel R Rivera, 83, of Londonderry died Jan. 11, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Manchester, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Boston, Mass., on Dec. 12, 1930, a son of the late Joaquin and Mary (Sacco) Rivera.

He had been a resident of Londonderry for the past 13 years, formerly living in Stoneham, Mass.

He served his country in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper.

He worked for F.W. Dixon as a cabinetmaker for many years and enjoyed woodworking in his free time.

He is survived by his wife, Helen (DiGiacomo) Rivera of Londonderry; one daughter, Andrea Almquist and her husband, Mark, of Londonderry; one son, Daniel Rivera and his wife, Roberta “Bobbi,” of Dracut, Mass.; five grandchildren, Lisa Dore, Kristen Rivera, Michael Cardello, Tyler Almquist and Logan Almquist; great-grandchildren; three brothers, Francisco Rivera of Stoneham, Mass., Bernard Rivera of Salem, NH, and Joseph Rivera of Jamaica Plain, Mass.; one sister, Pilar Valverde of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Edward Rivera, and one sister, Felicia Belair.

Calling hours were held on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Londonderry, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen.
