Eugene E. Shannon passed away surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness on Saturday, June 10, 2017.
Born in Lawrence, MA to Eugene and Elsie Shannon, he graduated from Dorchester High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and flew combat missions in the Pacific as a radioman with Torpedo Squadron 81.
After the war, he returned to Boston, married Mary Joyce of Dorchester, and raised two children.  The family moved to Londonderry in 1976. A businessman and entrepreneur, he started and operated a number of small businesses and consulted and helped grow a variety of others, most notably as CEO of Geophysical Survey Systems of Nashua. An avid outdoors man, he was a founder of the Ala-Bye ski club of Intervale, and skied and hiked the White Mountains for over 50 years. He enjoyed Boston for 50 years. He enjoyed Boston’s sports teams and sailing on Lake Winnepesaukee with his family and friends.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Shannon, his brother Robert Shannon and his wife Joyce of Stowe, VT, children Christine Shannon of North Conway and Paul Shannon and his wife Stacey of Londonderry, grandchildren Shannon McCarter and her husband Jonathan of Washington, DC, Eric Matthew Styffe of Bartlett, Kelsey Shannon and her husband Liam of Milford, and Patrick Shannon of Londonderry, as well as great-granddaughter Moira McCarter of Washington, DC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
