George Rene Fortin, 87, of Londonderry, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, after a period of declining health, surrounded by his loving family at the Courville of Manchester. George was born July 31, 1930 in Nashua, and was a son of the late Roland and Irene (Pinsonneault) Fortin. He was raised and educated in Nashua and had been a longtime resident of Londonderry.
Mr. Fortin was employed as a surveyor by the City of Nashua and had operated a dry- cleaning route for Imelda and Harry. He spent most of his working life as an Insurance Agent with the Prudential and Poloquin Insurance Companies. George was an active communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church of Derry, the same church he and Elaine were married in in 1953. He served in the NH Army National Guard and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. George will be fondly remembered for his Great love of God, his Ability to Pray for Others and his Awesome Sense of Humor!
Members of the family include his loving wife of 64 years, Elaine (Cote) Fortin of Londonderry, his oldest daughter, Charlene & Stephen Edwards, of Bedford, NH, a son, Michael Fortin of Londonderry, daughters, Theresa Fortin-Madore, of Northwood, NH, Jeanne & Gary Nault, of Manchester and June & Jim Fredette of Strafford, NH, 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a brother, Conrad and his wife Lorraine Fortin, of Manchester, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Jeannette McHugh and her husband Don.
Calling hours will be held Thurs., Jan. 25, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 11 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave. in Derry and will conclude with burial at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery of Nashua.
