Jean Wlodyka Stott, formerly of North Andover, MA and St. Petersburg, FL passed away peacefully at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH on October 13th. She was surrounded by loved ones. Jean was born on October 9th, 1918 in Methuen, MA to Katherine and Stanley Wlodyka. She grew up and was educated in Lawrence, MA. At age 17 she began working for Bolta Rubber and subsequently worked in the Pacific Mill for 14 years. Jean then worked for Western Electric for 28 years. She was also a member of the Western Electric Pioneers. Jean volunteered at Lawrence General Hospital in the late 1970s. She served several offices at the Julian Stopyra Post and was a member of the Lowell Polish American Veterans.
After retirement Jean moved to St. Petersburg, FL where she lived for 26 years. Jean volunteered at her local Hospice thrift shop and in their holiday gift wrapping program. She also volunteered at the Science Center of Pinellas County. Jean was an active member of the St. Petersburg Polish Society and the Red Hat Society. She attended church weekly. Jean’s favorite pastime was Polka dancing. She also participated in several bowling leagues. Other hobbies included crocheting, cooking, baking, reading and shopping. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing and sharing gardenias with neighbors and friends. Jean’s home was always immaculate and she loved to entertain. Jean rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy. She also traveled extensively in her retirement.
She visited many European countries, including several trips to Poland. She also vacationed in Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Alaska, Hawaii and a number of other destinations. Jean organized bus trips for Polka bands to the Catskills and Wildwood, NJ. Jean loved spending time with her family and friends. All who met her were amazed by her energy and enthusiasm for life.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacalyn Thesse and husband Robert of Londonderry, NH; her son, Jan Stott of Methuen, MA; her granddaughter, Sarah Wobrock, husband Adam and great-grandson, Cody, all of Litchfield, NH. She is also survived by her sister, Genevieve Svoboda, of Salem, NH and three nephews, Skip Svoboda and wife Elaine, of Deerfield, NH, David Svoboda of Salem, NH and Craig Wlodyka and wife Gaile, of Hampton, NH along with many close friends who will miss her dearly. Jean’s great-grandson, Cody, was the light of her life.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Londonderry, NH on Saturday, October 25th at 11:00am.
