Lady Lancer Booters Sit at 2-2 After Their First Four Games

Early-season ups and downs continued for the Londonderry High girls’ soccer squad last week, with the locals having a pair of defeats during that span after starting the 2016 season with a pair of victories.

The Lady Lancers pelted plenty of shots on the Bishop Guertin net when they visited the Lady Cardinals in Nashua Tuesday, Sept. 6. But when the final buzzer sounded, the host Guertin crew had netted the only goal in a 1-0 match.

The Lady Cards tallied that lone goal in the 28th minute of the opening half, and their goalie Caroline Hoffer turned aside 11 Londonderry shots in helping to bag the shutout for her contingent. LHS goalie Ryann Boudreau made two stops in her team’s cage.

The win pushed the BG bunch’s season record to 2-2 while the Lady Lancers moved to 2-1.

Londonderry then aimed to return to the winning path on Friday, Sept. 9 when it played host to the Concord Crimson Tide. But the visiting booters ended up being a couple of goals better than the young Lancer squad in a 3-1 match.

All four goals were potted in the first half of the match, with Londonderry getting the fun started when Halle Hamilton popped home a free kick in the 17th minute of play.

Concord responded with markers in minutes 22, 33, and 38 to get to what would be the final score of 3-1.

Once again the Lady Lancers had no shortage of shots on the opposing net, as they belted 11 blasts on Crimson Tide keeper Nicole Cacciola, who stifled 10 of them for her 3-2 contingent. Londonderry goalie Boudreau finished the match with 11 stops.

This week’s slate had the girls set to play at Exeter High School on Tuesday, Sept. 13, after Londonderry Times press time, before a much briefer road trip over to Alvirne in Hudson to play the Lady Broncos this Thursday, Sept. 16.
