After taking a 14-8 defeat on the chin from the host Bishop Guertin Lady Cardinals in its 2017 season-opener in Nashua last Tuesday, April 11, the Londonderry High girls’ lacrosse squad righted itself and snagged the first win of the coach Scott Walden era with an exclamation point on its home field some three days later.

The victorious Lady Lancers got goals from no less than eight different scorers in the 16-5 thumping of the visiting Keene High Lady Blackbirds on Friday, April 14, with seasoned veteran Catie Derhak pacing the charge with an impressive seven-point day on four goals and three assists.

Meghan Jackes was also good for four tallies while Emily Holland and Grace Chicko each scored twice and Kiersten Hoglund, Erika Tsetsilas, Allie Marsh, and Katelyn Nartiff each rippled the twine on the Keene net once. Holland and Marsh also dished out one assist apiece, and goalie Kaitlyn Marchant turned aside seven Lady Blackbird shots.

The hosts had a 6-3 lead at halftime and then went on to outscore their guests by an 8-5 margin in the second half of play.

After contemplating that 1-1 record, the Lady Lancers bounded into this week looking at an incredibly busy schedule during the week before April school vacation.

New coach Walden’s young women were looking at four road matches in just five days, including a ride to Dover on Tuesday April 18 – after Londonderry Times press time – followed by a trip to Laconia on Thursday, a shorter jaunt to Manchester Central on Friday, and then another seacoast run to Exeter High School on Saturday.
