Lady Lancer Laxers Start Season With Blowout Wins

With coach Bob Slater back for his third stint as the coach of the Londonderry High girls’ varsity lacrosse team, the Lady Lancers played as they did in championship years past in kicking off their 2015 campaign with blowout victories over both the Hollis-Brookline Lady Cavaliers and the Manchester Central Little Green late last week.

The LHS crew got its new campaign rolling in Hollis last Friday, April 17 with a 20-4 mauling of the host Lady Cavaliers, sprinting out to a 14-1 first half lead and then outscoring its host by a 6-3 margin during the second half to stride away with the lopsided victory.

Veterans Breda Holland and Sarah Bell paced the victors by scoring five goals apiece, and senior co-captain Noelle Lambert was good for a total of seven big points on four goals and three assists.

Caty Derhak and Dominique Breault each contributed two goals, Chelsea Lewis was good for a goal and an assist, Emily Holland scored once, and June Cranmer dished out three assists. Goalie Michaela Kewley added two saves to the victorious Londonderry effort.

And it was more of the same for Slater’s Lady Lancers in their home-opener against Central the next day, as the locals raced out to an 11-1 lead by halftime and ended up celebrating a 16-2 win.

Breda Holland continued to celebrate her heightened role with the team by netting four more goals, Lambert bagged three, Bell was good for two tallies and three assists on a five-point day, Cranmer and Lewis each scored twice as well, Derhak and Emily Holland each scored once and assisted twice, and Breault was good for one marker. Keeper Kewley contributed one save to her 2-0 team’s effort.

The girls’ unbeaten record will be tested over the coming weekend as they are scheduled to head to Bishop Guertin in Nashua on Friday, April 24, and follow up that contest with a trip to Pinkerton Academy in Derry to face the arch-rival Lady Astros on Saturday, April 25, at 11:30 a.m.
