After a week-long break from competitive action, the Londonderry High softball squad didn’t miss a beat in pushing its 2017 record to a superb 6-0 this past Monday, May 1 by thumping the visiting Merrimack High Lady Tomahawks by a 6-1 tally at LHS.

The Lady Lancers hadn’t played since Monday, April 24, when they shut out the visiting Exeter contingent in Londonderry 3-0. But after the vacation, the locals went back to work against a Merrimack crew which came into action with just one win in six games. And the Lady Tomahawks left Londonderry still seeking their second success of the season.

The Lancer squad plated all six of its runs before Merrimack was able to do any scoring, notching one run in the bottom of the first, two in the fourth, one more in the fifth, and then two more in the latter half of the sixth. The Lady Tomahawks finally snuffed out Londonderry’s shutout hopes in the top half of the seventh frame.

The victorious hosts finished the contest with nine hits, with Katrina Rivard lacing two doubles, driving in two runs, and scoring one run. Ila Brown also smacked out two hits and scored twice, and Liz Niven also drove in two teammates with her one hit which came with her in a pinch-hitting role.

Andi Nelson snagged another pitching victory for her squad, which was left facing an extremely busy week in the wake of the mauling of Merrimack.

That slate had the locals on the road at Nashua South on Wednesday May 3 – after Londonderry Times press time – followed by a ride to the state capital to face the Concord High Crimson Tide the next day, which was to be followed by a shorter road run over to Derry to face off with the rival Pinkerton Academy Lady Astros in Beeman Trophy play on Friday May 5, weather permitting.

Addendum: The game for Friday May 5 has been postponed.
