The Londonderry High girls’ tennis team pointed itself toward the Division I tournament by splitting its last two regular season matches last week, finishing up with a modest 6-8 record.
The Lady Lancers suffered a humbling, 8-1 defeat at the hands of the rival Pinkerton Academy Lady Astros in Derry Wednesday, May 20, but rebounded nicely to bag a 7-2 win they were expected to collect over the winless Spaulding High Lady Red Raiders in Rochester two afternoons later.
In the loss to PA, the Lady Lancers received their only victory of the day from Sarah DePasquale at second singles.
But there were far more successes to be celebrated on the road last Friday, May 22, when the locals snagged a 7-2 victory from struggling Spaulding.
Singles wins came from DePasquale (8-2), Maggie Phillips (8-2), Liz Mak (8-0), Kathryn Dwyer (8-1), and Sarah Court (8-1).
The Lancer crew put the final touches on its sixth match victory of the spring with doubles successes from the tandems of DePasquale and Court (8-2) and Phillips and Dwyer (8-2).
