The struggling Timberlane Regional High girls’ tennis team was an opponent ripe for the picking by the Londonderry High girl racketeers in Plaistow on Wednesday, May 14. And coach Tom Meighan’s Lady Lancers got the job done beautifully.
The Londonderry crew drove its season record up to an excellent 9-2 with an 8-1 throttling of its 3-10 host, which dropped the ninth of its last 10 decisions that day.
Londonderry received resounding singles victories from Cassie Burbine (8-0), Ana Milosavljevic (8-0), Marissa Beaton (8-3), Anna Shveshkeyev (8-0), and Sarah DePasquale (8-2) to roll into doubles with the outcome of the match already decided.
And the locals snared victories six through eight, thanks to the successful doubles play of the tandems of Burbine and Milosavljevic (8-0), Beaton and DePasquale (8-0), and Shveshkeyev and Hunter Goldman (8-3).
The Lady Lancers then faced a major test this past Monday when they played host to the sizzling-hot Exeter High Lady Blue Hawks. And things didn’t work out well for the hosts in a 6-3 loss.
Londonderry started the match out in great fashion with Cassie Burbine and Ana Milosavljevic both bagging 8-2 singles wins. But that was it on singles victories for the host team.
Trailing 4-2 overall in the match, the doubles tandem of Burbine and Milosavljevic then started doubles play with another 8-2 win, but that was the Lady Lancers’ last success on this day.
Exeter bagged its 11th consecutive win and moved to 12-1 on the season, and Londonderry moved to 9-3.
