The Londonderry High School Varsity Volleyball team had two games last week where they were able to come away with a rather easy win followed by a tough loss.
The team started the week with home match against a winless Manchester Memorial squad, where they were able to dispatch of the Crusaders in three sets.
Memorial has only been able to win one set this year and Londonderry really didn’t give them a chance to win their second.
The Lancers moved to 5-1 with a 3-0 sweep at home on Monday, Sept. 18, winning 25-12, 25-9 and 25-13.
Highlights for the LHS squad included: sophomore Mady Normand getting 16 assists and 14 aces; junior Malia Sivigny had four kills and an ace in the match; fellow sophomore Elisabeth Kearney notched four kills and four digs; and senior Libby Bono tallied five kills and three digs.
Later in the week, in a much closer contest against rivals Pinkerton Academy, the Lancers fell to 5-2 with a four set loss during the annual Mack Plaque competition in Derry on Saturday.
The LHS team started strong and they were able to take a 20-15 first set lead, but fell short in the end opening with a 22-25 loss.
The Lancers looked great in the second set, beating the Astros 25-15, but then fell 25-20 in the final two frames.
Senior Sarah DeFazio put up 36 assists and eight digs in the match.
Fellow senior Abby Harrington finished the day with 22 digs and two aces.
Senior Ally McGonagle had 17 kills and sophomore Annie Williams tallied eight kills and three blocks.
Londonderry is scheduled to play three games this week, the first, at home, on Monday against the Portsmouth Clippers (4-3). On Tuesday, Sept. 26, they play Alvirne (2-6) on their home court and the week finishes on Thursday, in Bedford against an undefeated Lady Bulldogs team.
