Coach Bob Slater and his Londonderry High girls’ lacrosse squad dealt with decisions that ran almost the entire gamut of possibilities last week, with the locals finishing that span with a 7-4 overall record.
Slater’s squad got thumped by the undefeated Souhegan side early in the week, rebounded for a one-goal win over strong Division III opponent Laconia several days later, and then finished the week with a total hammering of Concord in the state capital.
The Lady Lancers saw their season record slip to 5-4 with a 16-7 loss to the strong Souhegan High Lady Sabers (9-1) in Amherst Tuesday, May 10.
The locals received four goals from Emily Holland, two from Breda Holland, and one from Gabby Morris in what ended up being a losing effort.
But two days later back in Londonderry, the LHS contingent squeaked out a hard-fought, 11-10 defeat of the upset-minded Division III crew from Laconia High School.
The 8-2 visitors had a 5-4 lead at halftime but then saw the Lancers outscore them by a 7-4 tally in the second half en route to the tight victory.
Senior stalwart Breda Holland busted a 10-10 deadlock with less than 20 seconds showing on the game clock in giving her squad the winning goal.
She finished the match with three goals and two assists for five big points, Morris was good for three goals, Emily Holland scored twice and assisted once, and Emily Davison, Dominique Breault, and Erika Tsetsilas were each good for one goal. LHS goalie Maddie Sullivan made five saves her contribution to the successful effort.
The next day, Friday the 13th, the Lady Lancers handed the host Concord High Crimson Tide a nightmarish experience in the form of a 17-5 defeat.
The locals drove out to a 10-3 lead in the first half and outscored their host by a 7-2 margin in the second half on the way to the lopsided victory.
Breda Holland bagged four goals, Davison was good for three goals and one assist, Meghan Jackes potted three goals, Breault scored twice, Caty
Derhak was good for a goal and two helpers, Morris notched a goal and an assist, Emily Holland, Tsetsilas, and Jill McIntire each netted one goal, and June Cranmer dealt out two assists. Goalie Sullivan was good for four saves in the team’s net.
When it entered this week, the Londonderry squad faced a rematch with the tough Souhegan Lady Sabers at LHS on Monday, May 16.
The locals held Souhegan to nine less goals than in the previous loss, but the Lady Lancers still fell by a 7-3 count.
The Lady Sabers grasped a commanding 6-0 lead at halftime despite the Lancer effort to slow play down on the Saber side of the field with ball control.
The Londonderry squad outscored their opponent by a 3-1 tally in the second half as it attempted a comeback.
Emily Holland scored twice for LHS and Emily Davison had the other goal. Maddie Sullivan made two stops in net.
