Lancer Girls’ Basketball Hand Blue Devils First Defeat

The Londonderry High School Girls Basketball squad traveled to Salem High School for the team’s one and only game last week and were able to come away with a solid 65-43 victory over the previously undefeated Lady Blue Devils.
Heading into the game, on Friday night, Jan. 10, Londonderry knew they’d have their work cut out for them. LHS had three consecutive wins to start the season, while Salem was hoping for their sixth consecutive victory.
The Londonderry girls found themselves digging out of a five-point deficit after the first period but quickly righted the ship and outscored their opponents 54-27 in the next three quarters.
Sophomore guard Gemma Murray had 11-points in the second quarter to help her team rally to a 28-25 lead by halftime.
Going into the final period, LHS was holding onto a 41-37 lead, but then busted out 24-points to Salem’s six in the fourth for the 22-point victory.
Murray and junior guard/forward Sammy Sullivan led the team in scoring with 22-points each.
Murray had two three-pointers along with nine other baskets, getting one free-throw at the line.
Sullivan put up one three-pointer, had eight baskets and went three-for-four at the foul line.
Sullivan is currently about 50-points shy of reaching 1,000 career points.
Junior guard Brooke Eacrett finished with 12-points, including two, three-pointers.
Senior guard Mia Giampa had five points and junior guard/forward Brooke Wilson drained one, three-pointer.
The Lady Lancers were scheduled to travel to Nashua South High School on Tuesday night where they faced the 4-2 Purple Panthers.
On Friday night, Jan. 17, the Londonderry girls will host a game against the Broncos from neighboring Alvirne High School. The Broncos are currently at 4-3 this season.
