Lancer Hockey Squad Wins Big Then Loses One in OT

By Chris Paul

The Londonderry High School Hockey team started the new year off with a tremendous 13-point shut out victory against the Nashua South-Pelham contingent, but then suffer a tough 4-3 overtime loss to Hanover High School to end the week.

In what turned out to be a rather one-sided affair at the Conway Arena in Nashua on Wednesday night, Jan. 5, against Nashua South-Pelham, the Londonderry squad came away with a 13-0 shutout victory and upped their season record to 4-1. The Lancers only loss to that point to Bishop Guertin, two-weeks into the season.

In the Lancers second game of the week, a home game against Hanover High School late Saturday night, Jan. 8, the Lancers had a very strong start, but gave their opposition an upper hand and lost 4-3 in the extra period.

After a scoreless fist period, Londonderry was able to take the lead in the second period with the first goal of the game coming from sophomore Jayden Hamilton.

Lancer senior Noah Malcolm doubled the LHS lead with another goal in the second period, but their opponent quickly answered back, scoring on a power play and then tying the game before the end of the second period.

Malcolm got his second goal of the night with five minutes left in the game, but that slim lead was relinquished before the end of regulation play.

Londonderry had a man advantage heading into the overtime period but was unable to capitalize on the man advantage and wound up allowing Hanover to score the game winner for the 4-3 victory.

The Lancer squad will try to get back to their winning ways on Wednesday night, Jan. 12, at home against Bishop Brady High School (1-3).

On Saturday afternoon, Jan. 15, Londonderry will take on Trinity High School in Manchester.
