The Londonderry High School Varsity Hockey Squad added two more dominating performances to their season’s results last week with a win at home and one on the road.
In the team’s first game of the week, on Wednesday, Jan. 12, they faced Bishop Brady, who was 1-3 at that point in the season.
Londonderry was easily able to get by the Brady bunch without giving up a single goal and beat that team 6-0.
From there, the Lancers took their 5-2 record on the road and traveled to Manchester’s JFK Coliseum on Saturday to take on Trinity High School.
Both team’s got off to a rather sluggish start, but the Pioneers seemed to carry the puck most of the first period and Londonderry was able to fight off a two-minute man advantage on a high sticking call.
The first period ended scoreless, despite a strong last minute flurry by the Lancers.
In the second period, Trinity got the upper hand with a goal at the five-minute mark, this after their first goal, two-minutes earlier, was taken back.
The Pioneers added to their scoring with another goal two-minutes later, for a 2-0 advantage, but before the period ended, senior captain Brandon Savage put the Lancers on the scoreboard with under 40-seconds left in the period.
The Lancers took control of the game from that point on, scoring five unanswered goals in the third period.
Freshman Brett McKinnon tied the game at two-apiece with an assist from junior Drew Cameron at 10-minutes.
One-minute later sophomore Mike Maloney put LHS up 3-2.
Less than a minute later Londonderry went up 4-2 with a goal from junior Ben Padykula assisted by McKinnon.
With just two and a half minutes left to play, the scoring continued for LHS when Padykula got his second goal of the night with the assist going to senior Noah Malcolm.
The final goal of the night came 30-seconds later with a goal by sophopmote Mat Boyon, assisted by junior captain Kyle McPhail.
Londonderry will try to continue their good fortunes with two more games this week. The first will be against Salem (3-4), on the road, Wednesday, Jan. 18. The second game is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22, against Windham High School (4-4), who Londonderry beat 3-2 in their first game of the season.
