Lancer Softball Tally Two 12-0 Wins, Fall to Astros

The Londonderry High School Softball team had two strong 12-0 wins followed by a difficult six-run loss to the Astros and finished the week at 9-2.
Starting on Monday, April 29, the Lady Lancers played host to Bishop Guertin and delivered the Cardinal their third loss of the season with a 12-0 shutout.
The Londonderry bats put up 10-runs in the first three innings to allow the team to cruise to the one-sided win.
Elizabeth Kearney had another outstanding performance in the circle, pitching five innings, striking out 12, walking one, and allowing just two hits.
The Lancers racked up 13 hits, with four walks, and four Ks.
Ginny Flaherty went 3-3 in the game to lead her team in hits, while Olivia Cutuli and Addie Browning each had three RBIs.
Two of Cutuli’s RBIs came off a homerun shot to right field in the second inning.
Two days later, on the road against the Nashua South Purple Panthers, the game’s outcome was extremely similar, scoring 11-runs by the end of the third and winning 12-0.
Abby Austen earned the victory, pitching three innings, giving up just one hit and one walk, and striking out five batters.
Vivian Belanger pitched two relief innings, striking out three, walking one, and no hits.
Overall, the Lancer bats produced 11 hits, walked six times, and struck out just three times in the game.
Browning hit a homerun during the very productive second inning where the LHS squad racked up six runs.
Flaherty was three for four at the plate, including a double and Austen hit the team’s only other double.
In the 1-7 loss to the Lady Astros of Pinkerton Academy, in Derry, on Friday, the Lancers were unable to muster any offense against the tough PA pitching.
Julia Caruso dominated the game in the circle for PA striking out 15 LHS batters and giving up just five hits.
Cutuli suffered the loss, pitching three innings with five hits, four runs, and five Ks. Kearney picked up the other three innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
The only Lancer run in the game came from a single by Kearney in the fourth innings after two walks led off the inning.
Before the loss to the still undefeated Astros, LHS was riding a nine game win streak.
The Lancers will play Nashua South on Monday and travel to Spaulding High School on Friday.
