Lancer Tracksters Enjoy Successes

Londonderry High School’s track and field contingents enjoyed significant successes during the week of May 9, with both the Lancer males and Lady Lancers closing out the week’s competition with top-five finishes at the annual Merrimack Invitational at Merrimack High School.

BOYS

Coach Matt Smith’s young men overpowered the Alvirne High Broncos from Hudson by a 98-37 tally at LHS Tuesday, May 10, with the victorious hosts winning 14 events in the process.

Lancer victories were bagged by Cullen Enwright in the discus (119 feet) and the javelin (126’3″), Derek Davies in the pole vault (12′) and the triple jump (38′ 1/2″), Trevor Guay in the long jump (19′ 8 3/4″) and the high jump (5’10”), Mark Gigliotti in the 100-meter dash (11.5 seconds) and the 200 dash (24.2), Kyle Foden in the shot put (46’4 3/4″), Chris Zaino in the 800 (2 minutes and 2.8 seconds), Jake Donnelly in the 3,200 (11:08.3), and Noah Schrank in the 1,600 (4:46.3).

The hosts team’s 4×100 (45.8) and 4×400 (3:40.2) relay quartets also proved unbeatable.

At the May 12 Merrimack Invitational, Smith’s squad finished a strong fourth out of 13 teams with 59 points. Concord won the boys’ meet with 95 points.

Among the locals’ standouts were event winners Guay in the 300 hurdles (39.77), Foden in the shot (47’10”), and Enwright in the javelin (151’5″).

GIRLS

The Lady Lancers ended up being the runner-up team behind the host Merrimack Lady Tomahawks at the Merrimack Invitational. The hosts tallied some 76 points while Londonderry finished up with 61 of them, with the Lady Lancers’ stalwarts including event winners Yorgelis Ortiz in the 200 (26.21) and the long jump (17′ 3/4″), Jordan Dufresne in the pole vault (10′), and Courtney Guay in the 800 (2:24.38).
