Londonderry High School’s boys’ and girls’ outdoor track and field teams both have impressive underclassmen in their ranks this spring. And that fact was borne out last Saturday, May 5, at the annual Salem Kiwanis Freshman/Sophomore Meet at Salem High School.
The Lady Lancers finished fourth out of 19 teams – less than a point behind third place Pinkerton – and boys’ wound up 11th out of 20 scoring squads.
The Lady Lancers had Akolam Wambu pace their charge by finishing first in the discus with a top toss of 90 feet, 11 inches. Her teammate Ashley Griffin was no slouch either as she played a part in three top-three performances.
Griffin grabbed a second place on her own in the pole vault (8′), a third by herself in the 100-meter dash (13.21 seconds), and she worked with teammates Julia Ethier, Alex Perry, and Erica Waters to bag a third in the 4×100 relay (53.63 seconds).
Additional scoring performances were registered by Jasmine Brown with a third in the 400 dash (1 minute, 03.91 seconds), the quartet of Caitlin Boufford, Brown, Cailey McDonough, and Gabby Page with a fourth in the 4×800 relay (10:52,57), Gillian Vilela with a fourth in the pole vault (7′), Nikki Longua with a fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.08), and the team of Alexis Groulx, Longua, McKenna Muldoon, and Vilela with a fifth in the 4×200 (2:02.48).
In boys’ competition, the Lancer males had Damon MacLeod bag second place in the 200 dash (24.14), the quartet of Kerry Daley, Matt Griffin, Will Heenan, and Declan Hotter take second in the 4×800 relay (8:49.98), and Heenan take a third on his own in the 1,600-meter run (4:34.92). His teammates Daley and Griffin finished just out of the points in that race, taking seventh and eighth respectively.
