Lancers Boys’ Chop Tomahawks for First Home Win

The Londonderry High School Boys’ Basketball team began the new-year with a decisive 20-point victory over the previously undefeated Merrimack Tomahawks, marking the squads first home-court win.

With the win, the Lancers improved their season record to 3-3, after coming off two tough losses at home and on the road to finish 2025.

Londonderry began the season strong with a 55-44 win over Winnacunnet on the seacoast, but then fell 35-51 in the home opener against Exeter.

The team’s second victory, also on the road, came with a 58-46 win at Manchester Memorial, but then dropped two consecutive games, one at home to Salem (65-81) and the other to Windham, on the road, scoring just over three dozen-points for a 37-64 loss.

On Friday night, Jan. 2, the Lancers bounded back with a very strong 71-51 win over the 3-0 Tomahawk squad. This was the first home win for Londonderry and featured exceptional shooting from a number of sources.

The Lancers led in three of the four quarters, starting with a 12-9 advantage in the first and moving to 31-23 by the half.

Londonderry had one of the biggest quarters of the season in the third, opening up a 20-point lead with 25-points to 13-points by Merrimack and lead 56-36 heading into the final period. With that lead, the final quarter featured a number of bench players and Merrimack was able to outscore their host 15-12, but still suffered their first loss of the young season.

Senior forward, Evan Vago led the team in scoring with 19-points. Vago had four, three-pointers and went five-for-six at the line.

Junior guard Charles Tharrington was the only other Lancer to hit double-digits with 10-points. He had one for three, two for two and was three-for-four in foul shots.

Senior guard Casey Marsh finished with eight-points, sophomore forward Garrett Nahlik had seven and Ben Sakellar and Davis Magarian both scored six in the win.

The Lancers are scheduled for just one game this week, heading to Spaulding High School on Wednesday, Jan. 7, for a contest with the 1-2 Red Raiders.
