The Londonderry High School Boys’ soccer squad upped its season record to 9-2-3 with a 4-2 victory over the Central Little Green last week.
The Lancers’ fourth consecutive win came on Thursday, Oct 17, when they hosted the 5-6-3 Central High School squad, scored three unanswered goals to start the first half and allowing the Little Green just one as the team’s head into the final week of Division I’s regular season.
In the opening half, with 8:55 minutes off the clock, senior Zach Mantegari put LHS on the board with an assist from senior Brett McKinnon.
Mantegari scored goal number two a minute later, this time with the assist coming from senior Tiago Keyes.
At 14:13 into the game Mantegari scored again, for the hat trick on a penalty kick.
Central got one back heading into the halftime break.
In the second half, at the 44-minute mark, senior Brett McKinnon scored the fourth Londonderry goal.
The final point of the game went to Central on a mistake made by LHS when they scored on their own goal at minute 68:00.
Senior Lancers keeper, Noah Celio, had six saves in the game while the Central goaltender made five.
Head coach, Todd Ellis, was happy with the way his team handled Central, saying after the game, “We played well today against a tough opponent that pressed us the entire time. It was a great test to see how we would respond to such pressure. We missed some opportunities to increase our lead at times and gave up a couple tough goals, but we didn’t lose our composure and were able to keep our wits.”
The Lancers will finish up the regular season this week, still currently sitting in fourth place in the Division I standings.
Londonderry will play Nashua South High School Purple Panthers (6-4-4), at home on Tuesday, Oct. 22. On Friday, Oct. 25, the Lancers will head to the state capital to face the Crimson Tide (2-11-1) at 6:30 p.m.
