The Londonderry High School varsity Field Hockey Team ended the regular season last week with a disappointing loss, but despite that defeat were happy to find out that the would be hosting their first round game as the eighth seed in the NHIAA Division I Tournament.
The bad news about that spot in the tournament bracket is that if they win the first round game against the Keene Blackbirds, they would then need to face the number one seed in the field, the Exeter High School Lady Blue Hawks.
Exeter and the Bedford Lady Bulldogs both finished the regular season with 15-1 records, but Bedford lost the head-to-head game earlier in the season.
The Lancers finished the season with a 7-7-2 record, due in part to an end of season four game winning streak where they outscored their opponents 13-3, unfortunately that streak ended in the final game of the regular season against the Windham High School Lady Jaguars.
In that game, played in Londonderry on Thursday, Oct. 14, senior Tara Wright was the only Lady Lancer to score in a contest that the Jags dominated control of the game.
Windham finished the season in the third spot of the Division I standing, thus receiving a number three seed in the tournament and a bye in the first round.
The Lancers will be playing their first round game on their home turf against Keene on Wednesday, Oct. 20, starting at 3 p.m.
Londonderry finished just one spot higher than the Lady Blackbirds in the division stands, but lost to them in the second game of the regular season 6-4.
If the LHS girls win the first round game they will need to travel to Exeter on Saturday, Oct. 23, and face the Lady Blue Hawks.
The last time they met, in the third week of the season, Exeter won 3-1.
