The Londonderry Girls’ Field Hockey team had two games last week and one of them was against the Lady Astros of Pinkerton Academy for the final game in the Mack Plaque contest in Derry.
The game wound up not having to play a part in the standings of the annual event, since the girls soccer match, that took place just before field hockey, secured the Mack Plaque win for Pinkerton, but the energy of the rivalry was still present.
In the game, Londonderry scored early in the second quarter and led for most of the game but some final minute heroics from two reliable sources tied the game up and sent the contest into an overtime period where neither team was able to gain enough ground to score.
The game finished in a 1-1 tie leaving the Lady Astros with a 3-4-3 record to end the week.
Caroline Leone was the hero for the Lady Lancers when she scored an unassisted goal at 13:40 in the second quarter.
The late, game tying PA goal came from Peyton Knowlton with an assist from Sage Wing at the 1:12 mark of the fourth quarter.
Astros goalie Elise LeBlanc made three saves for her squad and Kathryn Martin had six in the net for LHS.
Earlier in the week, the LHS girls were able to claim their second victory of the season when they traveled to Manchester to play the Lady Crusaders under some very wet conditions.
Senior Rease St. Gelais scored the first and second goal for LHS in the 4-1 victory. Senior Audrey Lidster got the third goal and Leone finished the scoring with the fourth goal of the game.
Martin was solid in the net with eight saves.
The girls ended the week with a 2-5-2 record heading into the final three weeks of the regular season.
