Lancers Girls’ Basketball Get Back to Winning Ways

After dropping two consecutive games to two of the toughest Division I teams, the Londonderry High School Girls’ Basketball team got back to its winning ways with three consecutive victories to put them at 10-2.
The Lady Lancers were able to come away with overwhelming victories during a three game stretch last week, with the final game of the week ending in a 50-point spread.
The Lady Lancers had their first victory of the week on their home floor, against the Merrimack Tomahawks, who have yet to win this season, on Tuesday night, Jan. 30.
Londonderry had a 43-point win, outscoring their opponents in every quarter to finish at 73-30.
LHS was ahead 22-4 after one quarter and finished the half with a 45-12 lead. Two 14-9 final periods resulted in the overwhelming win.
Freshman guard, Gemma Murray, tallied the team-high score of 18-points in the game, with 11-points coming in the first quarter.
Sophomore Sammy Sullivan finished with 12-points; junior Kate Sloper had nine; Molly Knight tallied eight; and Brooke Eacrett scored seven.
Two nights later, during a make-up game from the previous week, Londonderry traveled to Hudson, beating the Broncos 44-27 and handing that team their sixth loss of the season.
The LHS team seemed focused on defense, limiting AHS to single digit scoring in each of the periods.
The Lancers had a slim 6-5 lead after the first quarter ended, but were able to rattle off 17 in the second to lead 23-12 by halftime.
In the second half, Londonderry managed just 21-points, but held the Broncos to 15-points for the Lancers ninth win of the season.
Sullivan scored most of the points in the game putting in 15 baskets for 24 points. Junior guard, Mia Giampa, tallied six-points and Eacrett and Sloper both had five.
The team’s final game of the week was at home, on Friday night, Feb. 2, against the Trinity Pioneers, a team that had only one win this season.
The Lancers handed THS s 77-27 loss and their twelfth defeat of the season.
Londonderry limited the Pioneers to five points in three of the four quarters, leading 39-10 by the half and 62-22 by the third.
Sullivan was once again Londonderry’s high-scorer, putting up 26-points in three quarters. Giampa finished with 18-points, including four, three-pointers. Junior guard, Reagan Anderson, had nine-points in the victory and Sloper finished with seven.
The Lady Lancers are scheduled for two road games this week, The first should take place on Friday at Winnacunnet High School (1-11) followed by a game in Hanover (9-4) for an Out-of-Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
