Lancers Girls’ Basketball Start Season with Two Wins

The Londonderry High School Girls’ Varsity Basketball squad began their season with two strong wins. The team scored 67-points on the road to open the season at Exeter High School, then scoring another 67-points in Londonderry in the team’s home opener.
In Exeter, against the Lady Blue Hawks, the Lancers put up 15-points in quarters one, two, and four, and had 22-points in the third, for an overwhelming 67-33 victory.
Sophomore guard, Brooke Eacrett, led her team in scoring with 20-points, getting 12 in the first half and adding eight in the second. She also made two of her three-point attempts.
Sophomore forward, Samantha Sullivan, finished with 17-points in the game. She opened with two, three-pointers and a bucket in the first quarter and added four-points in the second. Sullivan then scored five in the second half.
Freshman Gemma Murray had a good start in her first game as a high schooler, getting seven-points on a basket, two free-throws, and a three-pointer.
Junior guards, Reagan Anderson, Mia Giampa and Talia Ioria, each had six points in the victory.
In the Londonderry squad’s home opener, on Friday night, Dec. 19, against the Nashua South Purple Panthers, the Lancers came away with 67-49 victory for their second win of the season.
The home team was without one of their top scores in this one, Sullivan was out sick, but the scoring was made up for elsewhere.
The Lady Lancers kept NSHS down to 10-points in each of the first thee quarters and only gave up eight in the final period, but the second half was riddled with fouls on both sides of the courts.
Londonderry had a 41-20 lead going into halftime and finished with 24-points in the second half, eight of those were on free-throws.
Eacrett, once again, led the team in scoring, getting a total of 18-points, with 15 of them coming in the first half.
Murray had 15-points in her second official game as a varsity player, scoring all, but one in the first half. She also had one of only two Three-pointers in the game. Junior guard, Kayla Sharkey, had the other.
Anderson played another solid game, scoring 10-points and junior guard, Kate Sloper, finished with eight points, all of which came in the final period.
The Lancers team will finish the month of December with two home games. The first was against the Portsmouth Clippers on Tuesday, Dec. 19, followed by a contest against the defending Division I champs.
The girls’ squad is scheduled to take on the Bishop Guertin Cardinals on Friday night, Dec. 22, starting at 7 p.m.
