The Londonderry High School Softball team suffered a tough loss to start the Spring season, but bounced back with an overwhelming victory in the team’s home opener.
The Lady Lancers headed to the seacoast on Monday, April 10, to face the Warriors of Winnacunnet High School, falling in a close 4-2 game despite out hitting their opponent 8-6.
The Warriors got on the board with a run in each of the first two innings.
LHS tied the game in the top of the third, putting two across the plate with eight batters.
Winnacunnet went ahead for good in the third, capitalizing on a walk and a single for their third run of the game.
The Lancers were scoreless in the final four inning, while WHS tacked on one insurance run in the fifth.
Junior Olivia Cutuli suffered the loss, pitching five innings and giving up four runs on six hits and three walks.
Senior Nina Covino had three hits in the game, Cutuli had two doubles, while Makenna True, Lauren Laudani, and Kaitlyn McHugh had a hit each.
The Lancers turned things around two days later with a 16-1 victory over Manchester Central on their home diamond.
All 16 of their runs came in the first three innings of the game.
Cutuli got the win by pitching just two innings of a five-inning game, with no hits, four strikeouts and zero walks.
The pitcher helped her cause at the plate, hitting a homerun and a double to drive in three runs.
Covino and Laudani each had three hits on four at bats. Corvino got two RBIs with three doubles and Landani managed three RBIs and crossed the plate three times.
Senior Mya Gaspie drove in four runners on two hits in three at bats.
The team was scheduled to play two more home games this week, starting on Monday against Exeter High School.
On Wednesday, April 19 the Lancers will face the Timberlane Owls and on Friday afternoon they travel to Manchester to face West-Trinty.
