The Londonderry High School Boys’ and Girls’ Track and Field Teams headed to Portsmouth High School on Friday night, May 30, where they competed in the Division I Championship.
For the boys’, junior Carlson Fitzgerald waited until the final stretch of the 1,600-Meter Run to edge out runners from Bishop Guertin and Pinkerton Academy for a first place win in that race.
Fitzgerald finished the long run at 4:22.88, just before senior Carson Fischer of B.G. at 4:23.43 and sophomore Jason Robie of P.A. at 4:23.71.
Fellow Lancer, junior Josh Twomey led the way for much of the race, but finished in fifth with a time of 4:28.48.
The 4×100-Meter Relay team of seniors Jon Inglese, Luc Gaudet, Chase Burris and Griffin Massahos, who recently broke the LHS record, placed second at states with a time of 42.77. They were just a half second behind the winning team from Pinkerton Academy.
The 4×800 Relay team of Alex Vaccaro, Patrick Ramsey, Cash Robles and Jack DiBuonno took fifth place at 8:24.98. The winning time of 8:08.45 was put in by Salem.
In the High Jump, Devin VanAvery placed seventh at 5’10”. The winner, from Nashua North, jumped to 6’2.”
Luc Gaudet had a seventh-place finish in the Triple Jump at 40’9”, he also placed 10th in the Long Jump (19’3.75”). Jayden Skitch had a jump of 39’9” for ninth in Long Jump.
Londonderry had two top ten finishers in the 3,200-Meter Run also. Freshman Patrick Ramsey finished eighth (9:48.19) and Carson Fitzgerald was ninth (9:49.55).
Massahos had a tenth place finish in the 200-Meter and Arnold Kasongo finished 14th in the 110-Meter Hurdles.
For the girls’ team, the highest finisher was a second-place High Jump by senior Linsey Gregoire. She had a jump of 4’10”, just 2” under the winner.
Freshman Arianna White also got to 4’10” and placed seventh.
In Discus, junior Autumn Yazbek had a sixth-place finish at 92’2”.
The 4×800-Meter Relay team of Gabriella DeLong, Anna Laufersweiler, Sayde White and Drewanne Sherman placed sixth with a time of 10:08.65.
In the 800-Meter Run, Drewanne Sherman placed seventh.
In the 4×100 the team of Shaneda Jackson, Lillian Barud, Kyra Courtemanche and Meara Horan was eighth at the meet with a time of 51.40.
In the 3,200-Meter Run Freshman Anna Laufersweiler finished 13th.
Junior Alexandra Pena finished in 14th in the Triple Jump with a leap of 31’4.5” and the 4×400-Meter Team had a 15th place finish.
As a team, both finished in 12th out of nearly 20 teams.
