The Londonderry High School Volleyball squad was able to improve their season record up to 8-4 last week with a straight set victory, on the road, over the Merrimack Tomahawks followed by a five game back-and-forth battle with the Nashua North Titans in Londonderry.
On Wednesday night, Oct. 4, they had very little trouble getting by the Lady Tomahawks during their trip over the Merrimack River. The Lady Lancers swept that team 3-0 scoring 25-20 in the first, 25-23 in the second set, and finishing with a 25-18 victory.
Along with the victory, senior Ally McGonagle and the team were also able to celebrate McGonagle getting her 750th kill.
Other highlights included Sarah DeFazio chalking up 23 assists and two kills.
Senior Libby Bono was able to notch five aces and four kills.
Two nights later, on Friday, Oct. 6, on their home court, the Lancers had to battle for just about every point to take a very close 3-2 victory over the Lady Titans.
The Nashua squad began the match with a very strong hand, leading for much of the first set, but Londonderry fought back from a 14-7 deficit to win 27-25.
The Lancers continued the momentum in the second set, leading by as much as 10-points for a 25-15 win.
The following two games went to the Titans, winning 25-23 and 25-18, but LHS bounced back in the final set winning 15-6.
Londonderry highlights include: Riley Campo getting eight kills, six aces, and three blocks. Sarah DeFazio served up 38 assists and hit five aces. Ally McGonagle helped the Londonderry cause by busting out 21 kills, 10 digs, and two blocks.
The Lancers will face two tough opponents this week. On Tuesday, Oct. 10, they played at home against Concord (10-3). On Wednesday, Oct. 11, the team travels to Goffstown (10-2) and on Friday night they play Timberlane (1-13) in Plaistow.
