LHS Boys’ JV Soccer Squad Finished Its Season With A Crown

The Londonderry High boys’ junior varsity soccer squad was a juggernaut, plain and simple.

When you score 77 goals and allow only 16, post a 19-1-1 record, and end your season by hoisting a championship trophy high overhead, you have earned the title “juggernaut.”

Coach Forrest Mehlhorn’s Lancers capped off their exceptional 2014 campaign by reigning supreme at the Roger Desmarais JV Soccer Invitational, leaving no questions about what they could accomplish on the soccer pitch when going full throttle.

Mehlhorn and his charges took pride in being a well-rounded contingent. But it was on defense where these Lancers made their mark during the successful 2014 campaign.

“Defense is what wins championships, and that rings true for this team,” said the coach. “We only allowed 16 goals over the whole season, and only one of those was during the tournament, in the final game against Pinkerton.”

The title-winning team’s top defenders included juniors John Galluzzo and Cullen Enwright and sophomores Tom Houston, Nick Vanini, and Ian Candella. Freshman Luke Cava also came in to help on defense at the end of the season and for the tournament. Junior Tim McEacharn and sophomore Eric Brown rotated in the goalie position every game and both performed above expectations.

Control of the midfield was the responsibility of junior Drew Twombly and sophomore Brian Frechette.

“Combining for four goals and nine assists, these two boys had the arduous task of winning the ball in the air and distributing it outside or to the forwards,” said Mehlhorn.

And up on the front line – as the numbers bear out – this Lancer crew had no trouble putting the ball in the net.

The top scorers on the productive squad were junior Tarik Dallahi (17 goals), sophomore Antonio Houde (12), and 11th grader Riley Treanor (11). Treanor led the team where assists were concerned, tallying 16 of them.

Other juniors on the team were Abrahao de Souza Lima and Caleb Moscoso, and the other sophomores were Nalen Iarrobino, Nick Daileanes, Zack Peters, and Jackson Lyscars.

Luke Cava and his fellow freshmen Josh Rutina, Owen Creed, and Alex Dominguez were only with the JV team for two regular season games and the tourney, but still made their presence felt.

And with all that his team accomplished during the fall campaign, Mehlhorn got to utter the phrase all soccer coaches – at every level – long to state when all has been said and done.

“We played our best soccer at the end of the season,” he said.
