LHS Gymnasts Keep Record Perfect by Rolling in Dover

Other than having to cancel its first home meet of the season due to some unexpected equipment troubles, the first segment of the 2017-18 campaign went magnificently for the Londonderry High girls’ gymnastics squad.

The Lady Lancers were absolutely perfect in a pair of road meets, including the first in Keene prior to Christmas and the second in Dover following that big holiday.

Coach Heather Lennon’s LHS crew simply overpowered the competition at Tri-Star Gymnastics in Dover in the latter, more recent event, tallying a team-best score of 132.2 to easily outdo Bishop Guertin of Nashua (118), host Spaulding of Rochester (102.85), Dover (98.4), Milford (96.05), and Souhegan of Amherst (73).

The Lady Lancers received event wins from Mira Kutney on the uneven bars (score of 8.2) and Courtney Baharian on the balance beam (9.05), second places from Kutney on beam (8.8) and Sophie Hagymas on vault (8.2) and in the floor exercise (8.85), and thirds from Kutney on vault (8.05), Maddie Croteau on the uneven bars (7.9), and Kutney on floor (8.8). And when all of the event scores were tallied, Lady Lancer stalwart Kutney wound up second (33.85) and freshman Hagymas finished fourth (30.9).

“Overall we had a solid meet and even beat our last team score by two points with watering down some of our vaults,” said coach Lennon. “Every meet we make small improvements and build off the last competition.”

The locals then enjoyed a lengthy break from competition – which they’re currently in the midst of – with their rescheduled home-opener from mid-December slated for the evening of Jan. 10. They hope to remain a power in that Wednesday night event.
