The Londonderry High boys’ lacrosse team ended its 2018 regular season pretty darn warm last week, having won six of its last seven matches and some five in a row.
Consecutive win number five came in the form of a 7-3 road success in Hanover last Thursday, May 24, leaving first-year varsity coach Roger Sampson’s team with the fifth seed in the forthcoming Division I tournament thanks to its excellent 11-6 record. Sampson’s squad will play the number four Bedford High Bulldogs in Bedford in Division I quarterfinal-round tournament action this coming Saturday, June 2 at 5 p.m.
In the victory over 7-10 Hanover, Londonderry raced out to a 3-1 lead in the first period. The locals led 4-1 at the half and 5-2 after three quarters on the way to the 7-3 success. The Lancers zipped some 18 total shots on Marauders’ goalie Mason Winter.
The victorious LHS crew had Anthony Federico equal Hanover’s offensive output by scoring three times himself. Jeff Wiedenfeld tallied three points on two goals and an assist, Jake Holland collected a goal and a helper, and Aidan Dennis bagged the other Londonderry goal.
Goalie Ross Carroll made seven saves to contribute to the victory.
Coach Sampson and his charges then learned this past Tuesday afternoon that they’d earned the fifth seed in D-I and would face off against fourth-ranked Bedford on the Bulldogs’ field in first-round tourney play this Saturday at 5 p.m.
