LHS Spikers Still Seeking First Match Win

The rebuilding Londonderry High girls’ volleyball squad entered last week still seeking its first game victories. But the Lady Lancers put that milestone well behind them despite dropping matches to Timberlane of Plaistow and Bedford.

The locals won their first two games of the season but suffered another match loss despite some superb work against the visiting Timberlane Lady Owls at LHS Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Timberlane won game one by a 25-22 score and game two by a 25-18 tally, but the Lady Lancers rebounded beautifully with a 25-14 victory in game three and a 28-26 win in game four to force a deciding fifth game. But the visitors came back to take game five by a 15-13 score and win the match by a 3-2 margin.

The locals received 29 assists from Anna Haas, 14 service points and six assists from Maddie Sanborn, 11 digs from Alyssa Pento, and 10 kills and four blocked shots from Josie Collins.

The 0-10 Londonderry crew was then at home in its own gym again last Friday, Sept. 30 against a Bedford High bunch that walked in with a 5-5 record and three consecutive losses.

In that match, the Lady Lancers fell behind 2-0 with game losses of 25-13 and 25-22. But the hosts kept the match going by taking game three by a 25-20 tally before falling in game four, 25-16.

Ashley Andrews had 15 assists and 12 service points for the locals, with Collins collecting seven kills and Sanborn claiming eight digs.

The Lady Lancers then played host to the undefeated Concord High Crimson Tide this past Monday, Oct. 3.

And the unbeaten Concord crew took care of business in handing the Lady Lancers a 3-0, shutout defeat.

The visiting Crimson Tide tallied game victories of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-19 despite eight assists by Andrews, seven service points and six digs from Pento, and four kills and two blocks from Collins.
