Veteran coach Chrys Ewen and the members of her Londonderry High School girls’ and boys’ swim teams had dozens of reasons to walk away from their 2014-15 season-opening meets in Londonderry last Friday, Dec. 12 wearing wide grins on their faces.
The Lady Lancers dominated the four opponents they hosted at the event, and the Lancer guys also enjoyed a sweep of the three opponents they opposed that evening in starting out 3-0 on the brand new campaign.
GIRLS
Ewen’s young women simply hammered Campbell of Litchfield (140-4 score), Milford (117-46), Wilton-Lyndeborough (138-10), and Windham (111-59) to place their early-season record at a perfect 4-0.
Allison Martin led the Londonderry charge by snagging individual victories in the 200-meter freestyle (2 minutes, 11.75 seconds) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:07.39), and contributing to relay wins in the 200 medley relay with Brittaney Brown, Brianna Nowicki, and Emily Buttafuoco (2:02.45) and the 400-meter relay with Nowicki, Buttafuoco, and Kayla Lovy (4:08.29).
The meet hosts also received individual wins from Anna Gruchot in the 50 free (27.05) and the 100 free (1:01.08), Nowicki in the 200 individual medley (2:25.12) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:16.81), Brown in the 100-meter backstroke (1:10.02), and Madison Martin in the 500 free (6:21.57).
BOYS
The LHS males had a relatively narrow win of 91-79 over the visiting Windham contingent, but they had far less trouble with the Campbell High Cougars (103-53) and the Milford Spartans (125-31).
The Lancers received multiple individual wins from Matt Monahan in the 200 individual medley (2:27.08) and the 100 free (53.92), Kyle MacKenzie in the 100 butterfly (57.89) and the 50 free (23.93), and Nick Byrne in the 500 free (5:45.09) and the 200 free (2:06.77).
The locals also got single individual victories from Mike Weisse in the 100 backstroke (1:06.33) and Duncan Van Etten in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:13.22), and relay wins from the 200 relay quartet of Weisse, Van Etten, Matt Bompastore, and MacKenzie (1:55.03) as well as the 400 relay crew of Byrne, Bompastore, Monahan, and MacKenzie (3:46.53).
The next team meet is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 19 at home against Timberlane, Salem, Goffstown and John Stark.
