LHS Tennis Teams Battle Through Competitive Spring Season

The Londonderry High School boys’ and girls’ tennis teams have both turned in competitive performances this spring, with each squad earning key victories against Division I opponents while preparing for the final stretch of the regular season.

The girls’ team entered the final week of the season with a 7-6 record after battling through one of the tougher schedules in the division. The Lancers opened the season in dominant fashion with a 9-0 sweep of Spaulding on April 8, followed by an 8-1 victory over Manchester Central two days later.

After a difficult stretch against strong programs including Bishop Guertin, Dover, Salem, and Keene, the girls’ rebounded with another shutout victory over Manchester Memorial on April 24.

Londonderry then picked up back-to-back narrow victories in early May, edging Nashua North and Concord by identical 5-4 scores. The Lancers added another important win on May 12 with a 6-3 decision over rival Pinkerton.

One of the team’s closest matches came on May 18, when Londonderry fell to Exeter by a tight 5-4 margin. The Lancers are scheduled to close out the regular season on May 21 against Derryfield.

The boys’ team has also enjoyed a strong season, compiling an 8-4 record entering the final weeks of play.

Londonderry opened with an 8-1 road win over Manchester Central before suffering early losses to Windham and Dover. The team quickly regrouped and went on an impressive midseason run.

Beginning with an 8-1 victory over Salem on April 20, the Lancers won seven of their next eight matches. During that stretch, Londonderry recorded dominant victories over Keene, Manchester Memorial, Nashua North, Concord, and Spaulding, outscoring those opponents by a combined margin of 52-1.

One of the season’s highlights came on May 7, when the Lancers edged Bishop Guertin 5-4 in one of the team’s most competitive matches of the year.

The boys team’s only losses during the second half of the season came against powerhouse Hanover and Exeter, two of the top programs in Division I.

Both Londonderry squads have shown steady improvement throughout the spring and have remained competitive against some of the state’s strongest tennis programs. With postseason play approaching, the Lancers appear well-positioned to make noise in the Division I tournament.
