LHS Tracksters Compete Well at 15th Black Bear Invitational

A slew of Londonderry High School athletes competed at the 15th Annual Black Bear Track and Field Invitational at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy in Northwood last Saturday, April 29. And a number of the Lancer males and Lady Lancers did quite well there.

The Lady Lancers had the bigger contingent of athletes in attendance at that annual competition, and the girls were paced by second place finishes from Maddy Croteau in the pole vault (an effort of 8 feet, 6 inches) and the 4×100-meter relay quartet (time of 51.81 seconds).

Other scoring, top-six performances were collected by Kalin Gregoire with a fifth in the 1,600-meter run (5 minutes, 23.69 seconds) and the Lady Lancers’ 4×800 relay quartet (10:39.22).

Other top 20 finishes were delivered by Gillian Vilela in the unseeded 100-meter dash (seventh), Jess Brien in the 200 dash (seventh) and the high jump (12th), Julia Ethier in the unseeded 100 dash (12th), Brittany Fernandez in the unseeded 100 (14th) and the 200 dash (20th), Kiera Wright in the javelin (14th), Croteau in the 200 dash (15th), Devin Enwright in the javelin (16th), Bella Ziolek in the 400 (17th) and the triple jump (18th), and Jill Doris in the triple jump (19th).

Other Lady Lancer competitors included Julia Fothergill in the unseeded 100, Elizabeth Stubbs in the 800-meter run, Gianna DelViscovo in the pole vault, and Akolam Wambu and Lindsey Guenther in the discus and the shot put, and Paige Velie in the discus.

The Lancer males were paced by seasoned veteran Chris Zaino, who finished an impressive second in the 800 (1:58.77). And Patrick Hagearty also bagged a top-six finish by placing fourth in the shot with his fine effort of 43’7″. Additionally, Hagearty claimed a top-20 finish (14th) in the discus, as did his teammate Jared Barton (17th).

Other top 20 finishes by Londonderry High males were tallied by Dylan Hotter (14th) and Christian Smith (15th) in the 1,600. Coach Matt Smith’s LHS males also had Shane McEachern compete in the long jump and Nathaniel Cohen compete against the crowd in the javelin.
