Local retired veteran Lieutenant Colonel John Lohmann visited with students at Moose Hill Kindergarten last week to personally thank them for the baskets and cards the American Legion Post 27 members had received on Veterans Day.
Lohmann also explained to the children where and when he served in the U.S. Army. Lohmann entered the U.S. Army as a member of the Infantry in 1969 and went on to become part of the Military Intelligence to protect those here and overseas.
While in the intelligence, Lohmann learned to speak Russian and spent a large part of his time with the military in Russia, where he was part of a team that oversaw the destruction of about 2,000 missiles.
He showed students where he served on a map and described a number of places he has lived. He also left the children with a collection of military pins that he had gathered over the years. Photos by Chris Paul
