Londonderry Field Hockey Squad Win Two of Three

By Chris Paul

The Londonderry High School Field Hockey squad had a very respectable start to their Fall season winning two home games and losing in a one-point battle on the road.
The team’s season started with a dominating performance against Manchester Memorial on Monday, Aug. 28, where they outscored their opponents 7-1.
The Lancers had a 2-0 lead after just one quarter with goals going to senior Ashleigh Leone with the first LHS goal of the season and assisted by senior Maya Silvestro.
Goal number two went to junior Ava Windish with the assist also going to Silvestro.
Sophomore Alison Chambers had the third of the game getting the first goal of the second period on a corner.
Memorial brought the game to with two, scoring at the four-minute mark, but Silvestro and Leone combined for the final goal of the first half. Silvestro got the goal with seconds left on the clock.
The senior leader went on to get the final three goals of the game for the 7-1 victory.
Sivestro was assisted by junior Keira Strike and Windish.
Two days later, in another home contest, Londonderry squeaked out a 2-1 win over the Bedford Lady Bulldogs.
Both teams were kept out of their opponants goals in the first quarter, but shortly into the second, Windisch had a goal at 13:48.
The one-goal held throughout the first half, but Londonderry seemed to be the dominant team.
At 8:32 in the third period, the Bulldogs managed to tie the game at a goal a piece.
Chambers gave her team the 2-1 lead and the win minutes later, during a corner shot from the circle.
As the period was winding down, Windish thought she had given the Lancers an insurance goal only to have it taken back by the officials.
The Lancers finished the week with a trip to the coast where they suffered their first defeat of the season, losing in a slim 1-0 decision to the Winnacunnet Warriors in Hampton on Friday afternoon.
Londonderry will take on Merrimack at home on Wednesday, Sept. 6, followed by a road game at Nashua South on Thursday night starting at 6 p.m.
