Londonderry Gymnasts Grab Top Spot at Two Competitions

Neither Goffstown nor Nashua South nor Concord nor Nashua North was any kind of match for the Londonderry High Lady Lancer girls’ gymnastics squad in a five-team meet at the Absolute Gymnastics Academy in Tyngsborough, Mass. on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Coach Heather Tuden’s LHS crew bagged a team score of 134.25 to easily outdistance Goffstown (120.95), South (118.85), Concord (112.1), and North (103.25).

Mira Kutney, Cassidy Williams, and Maddie Croteau were the scoring stalwarts for the locals, with Kutney snaring first place in the floor exercise (9.2) and seconds on the uneven bars (8.25) and the balance beam (8.7).

Croteau was victorious on vault (9.25) with Williams second (9.2), Croteau claimed third on bars (8.1) and floor (8.9), and Williams finished third on beam (8.6).

“We started off with a rough bar set, but the team was able to pull everything together to finish with our second highest score of the season,” said coach Tuden. “We had other solid vaults from Chelsea Pinet and Taylor MacKenzie, we had other clean bar routines from Tara Nigro and Janiah Bergendahl, other good beam routines came from Camille Lamont, Maddie Croteau, and Marissa McKay, and other strong floor routines came from Suzie Moore, Camille Lamont, and Taylor MacKenzie.”

The Lady Lancers then played host to Spaulding of Rochester, Alvirne of Hudson, and the Windham High gymnasts this past Monday evening the 30th.

And the defending state champs got the job done that night by notching a score of 132.7 to defeat Windham (127.2), Spaulding (115.3), and Alvirne (112.4).

Croteau collected first places on vault and floor, Cassidy Williams finished second on bars, Suzie Moore got second on both beam and floor, and third places came from Seana Kelly on bars and floor and Chelsea Pinet and Williams in a tie on beam.

“It was nice being at home in front of our home crowd,” said Tuden. “Every meet we are slowly putting things together in preparation for states.”

The Lady Lancers’ final home meet of the campaign takes place next Monday the 6th, which will also be senior night for the strong local contingent.
