Londonderry High School Stickers Keep the Victories Coming

With the 2016 post-season sliding into view, the Londonderry High field hockey squad is kicking into gear and leaving defeated opponents in its dust.

The Lady Lancers got their sixth victory in their last seven matches in a 1-0 nipping of struggling Dover at LHS Wednesday, Oct. 5.

The game’s lone goal, scored in the second half, was potted by Allie Marsh with Courtney Shay and Sophia Poulin both garnering assists.

Danielle Ziv made one stop in the LHS net in her team’s fifth shutout of the fall.

“We had a difficult time putting the ball in the net, but in the end we only needed one goal to win,” said coach Laura Federico. “The girls all worked hard in the game, and it was great to have a ‘W’ on senior day. I think we could have capitalized on a few of those opportunities, but again a win is a win.”

The locals had their senior celebration prior to the Dover match, recognizing their large crew of 12th graders which includes Alexa Mayo, Olivia Palumbo, Laura Batchelor, Allie Whitehead, Nicole Chames, Valerie Shay, Gabby L’Heureux, Poulin, Paige Potvin, and Ziv.

And the Lady Lancers bagged another win – their seventh in eight matches – when they rebounded from a first-half deficit to best the Keene High Blackbirds by a 2-1 tally at LHS on Friday, Oct. 7.

The visitors notched the lone goal of the first half, but 8-3-1 Londonderry received markers from Alivia Proulx and Lauren Mullen in the second period, with Maeve McPhail and Whitehead getting the assists.

Then, in a game on Columbus Day, with its road match at Manchester Memorial having been rescheduled from Tuesday Oct. 11 because of Yom Kippur. The host  Crusaders came into that game with a 3-9 record.

The Lancers kept the wins coming, defeating their hosts in a 2-0 shutout that featured two goals from Alli Marsh with assists from Mullen and Chames. Ziv made five stops in her net.

“This was a great game. Everyone played really well,” said Federico
