Londonderry High Track Squads Excel in Manchester Dual Meets

Londonderry High’s girls’ and boys’ track and field squads found all kinds of success in the Queen City back on Tuesday, May 2, when both contingents throttled their Manchester Central Little Green opponents on those squads’ home track.

And then at the end of the week – on Saturday the 6th – the Lady Lancers’ youngest athletes claimed an impressive second place finish out of some 19 teams at the annual Kiwanis Freshman/Sophomore Meet at Salem High School.

GIRLS

Coach Sue Johnson saw her Lady Lancers throttle their Queen City opponent by an 88-52 score in the Tuesday battle, with her charges winning eight events and sweeping the top three spots in both the discus and the long jump.

The locals got event victories from Akolam Wambu in the discus (a throw of 88 feet, 7 inches), Keira Wright in the javelin (91’7″), Kaylie Longua in the long jump (14’7 1/2″), Jess Brien in the high jump (4’8″), Jill Doris in the 100-meter hurdles (20.7 seconds), Kalin Gregoire in the 1,600-meter run (5 minutes, 29.1 seconds), and Devyn Enwright in the 400 (65.7). The team’s 4×400 relay quartet also proved unbeatable (4:21).

Then at the Kiwanis meet on Saturday, the Lady Lancers’ freshmen and sophomores finished behind only Nashua South in taking second place from among 19 teams.

Other seconds were delivered by Alivia Proulx in the 100 hurdles and the 4×200 and 4×800 relay quartets, and thirds were turned in by Suzie Moore in the pole vault and Wambu in the discus.
