Some superb performances from individual athletes and relay teams enabled the Londonderry High outdoor track and field squads to open their 2015 seasons in fine style against the Concord High Crimson Tide contingents at LHS last week.
Coach Matt Smith’s Lancer guys pounded the Tide males by a 90-51 count on the LHS track on Tuesday, April 14, while coach Sue Johnson’s Lady Lancers beat the Tide ladies by an 85-60 score there that day.
BOYS
Multiple event victories were bagged for the Lancer guys by Derek Davies in the pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches), the triple jump (37’4”), and the 400 (53.2 seconds), and Kyle Foden in the shot put (43’1”) and the discus (103’11”).
Individual wins came from Cullen Enwright in the javelin (124’10”), Eric Fairweather in the high jump (5’8”), Starlin Ortiz in the 110 hurdles (15.3), and Trevor Guay in the 300 hurdles (41.5).
The victors also took the 4×100 relay (46.5) and the 4×400 (3 minutes, 41.2 seconds).
GIRLS
Senior multi-event standout Natalie Howes hit the heights with a winning javelin throw of 128 feet and one inch to help pace the Lady Lancers’ fine performance. Howes also tied for first place in the pole vault with teammate Jordan Dufresne (9’6”).
LHS sophomore Lexy Freire won three events on her own, including the discus (32’11”), the 100 hurdles (17.8), and the 300 hurdles (53.6). The well-named Ellie Goodspeed proved unbeatable in the 100 dash (13.6) and the 200 (28.5), and Yorgelis Ortiz was tops in the triple jump (33’8”) and the high jump (5’2”).
Other LHS wins came from Andrea Wooldridge in the long jump (15’2”), Kaitlyn Marchant in the 400 (65.9), and the 4×100 (51.8) and 4×400 (4:23.3) relay quartets.
