Londonderry Schedules First Fall Tryouts, Practices

The time to get rolling toward the 2014 fall sports season is arriving.

Londonderry athletic director Howard Sobolov has announced the first tryout and practice sessions for the fall sports programs at both Londonderry High and the Londonderry Middle School.

The high school programs will get going first, with the first commencing their tryout and practice sessions on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

On that date, football will get going at 7:30 a.m. on the LHS football practice field.

The cheerleaders will also begin their tryouts and workouts on that day, meeting in the Lancer gymnasium from 9 a.m. until noon, and then holding a second session that day from 1 to 3 p.m.

On the following Monday, Aug. 18, the Lancer golfers and golf hopefuls will tee it up for the first time at 7 a.m. at the Passaconaway Country Club in Litchfield.

At that same hour, the LHS girl soccer players will be meeting on their practice field, the boy soccer players will get kicking from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at LHS Panther Park Field and meet again from 4 to 6 p.m., and the LHS Lady Lancer field hockey players and hopefuls will get started from 7 to 9 a.m. on the Matthew Thornton field.

The boys’ cross-country crew will gather for its first session at 8 a.m. on the LHS track, and the girls’ cross-country and girls’ volleyball groups will meet at 5 p.m. on the high school track. The Lady Lancer spikers will get together from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the gym.

Unified soccer players are instructed to check the school athletics page later in August ( as it’s still being determined when their first meeting will be held.

The middle school’ teams will all get their tryouts and practices going on Monday, Aug. 25, at the following times and locations: field hockey (the LMS gym at 3 p.m.); girls’ soccer (LMS game field from 3 to 5 p.m.); boys’ soccer (at Par 5, 3 to 5 p.m.); girls’ cross-country (behind LMS, 3 to 4:45 p.m.); boys’ cross-country (behind LMS at 3 p.m.), and volleyball (3 to 4:30 p.m., in the LMS gym).
