For residents who have both legal experience and a desire to assist their community, the town of Londonderry is currently looking to hire on a full-time Assistant Town Solicitor.
Working underneath the Town Manager, Assistant Town Manager and Chief of Police, this legal and administrative position would have the candidate serve as an internal legal advisor to town departments, boards and committees on a broad range of legal issues, including criminal law, taxation, planning, zoning, land use, elections, regulatory issues, and the right-to-know law, as well as prepare and prosecute cases for the Police Department, Derry District Court and Rockingham County Superior Court.
More specifically, the position will be host to a wide variety of duties, such as providing legal advice or opinions to police and government units, drafting deeds, obligations and other legal instruments, reviewing and drafting regulations and ordinances and providing assistance to the Code Enforcement Officer regarding violations and enforcement of land use issues.
Furthermore, the position would also work to draft and review legislation, work closely with police officers and witnesses in courtroom cases, research and develop policies for courtroom presentations and be available for twenty four hour on-call assistance for legal advice in all criminal investigations.
In terms of working conditions, a solid applicant must be able to listen, analyze, communicate, advise and problem-solve effectively, as well as have the ability to effectively persuade others by using reason and logic and safely operate a vehicle.
In order to be considered for the position, one must be an active member of the New Hampshire Bar and have knowledge of New Hampshire criminal statutes and case law, as well as courtroom experience. They must be able to perform effective legal research, write memorandums of law and legal opinions and learn Police Department and town of Londonderry policies, procedures, and rules and regulations, amongst other expectations. Applicants will also need to pass a background investigation, criminal history check and drug test.
The position pays anywhere from fifty eight thousand to eighty five thousand dollars annually and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as other hours when required.
