Perfection is extremely hard to beat, to say the least, but it was a perfect 7-0 record which was compiled by a Londonderry Lancer football contingent when it won the recent Assumption College 7vs7 Shootout Tournament down in Worcester, Mass.
The local crew, led by coaches Jimmy Lauzon, Matt Case, Bill Clement, Nick Clement, and Mike Bombardier, bested Massachusetts opponents from Danvers, Bedford, Chelmsford, Billerica, and Lynnfield as well as an opposing squad from Killingly, Ct., before facing off against and vanquishing a team from Peabody, Mass., in the championship game.
The Londonderry entry’s roster featured incoming Londonderry High seniors Joe St. Brice, Cam MacDonald, Pete Navarro, Kevin Lowe, Johnny Meskell, Jake Stevens, Brandyn Proulx, Eric Doran, Brandon Radford, Nick Scarfo, Zac Garside, Xavier Cora, Mark Bickford, Colin Reardon, and Evan Cormier,
The locals entered a total of two teams in the tournament, with the second Londonderry crew finishing with a very respectable 2-2 record.
Looking ahead, Londonderry football will have one of the many teams entered in the Under Armour Northeast 7-on-7 tournament’s North Regional on July 16 at Exeter High School. The North Regional will have some 40 teams competing, and it’s one of three sites for the overall, 120-team tournament. All six New England states will be represented in that huge tournament.
