Londonderry Wrestlers Do Well at Methuen Invitational

The Londonderry High School Wrestling team had its only Dual Meet of the week cancelled due to weather, but then had some good individual results when they traveled into Massachusetts over the weekend to compete in the Methuen Invitational.
The Lancers dual meet against the Timberlane Owls, on Wednesday night, Jan. 24, was postponed and rescheduled for later this week, but as they get ready for the state finals, the Massachusetts tournament was a good way to hone their skills.
At the event, in Methuen, on Saturday, Jan. 27, Londonderry came away with a seventh place team finish and three first-place finishes.
The Lancers brought 12 wrestlers to the Methuen Invitational, with three of those being seeded, and four placed in the final matches of the day.
Junior David Pento and senior Patrick O’Connor were both seeded first in the tournament and both were able to win all four of their bouts and take home first-place medals.
Junior Manny Perez was seeded third in the 150 lbs. bracket and also came away with a first-place finish with four straight victories.
Senior Finn Millis went 3-2 in the 157 lbs. weight class and placed fourth at the event.
Also competing at the event for the Lancers were: Freshman Dylan Nadeau at 120 lbs., went 2-2; freshman Haley Doyle at 126 lbs. went 0-2; at 132 lbs. freshman Caleb Holden finished at 1-2; sophomore Moqsid Rahmani, 138 lbs. went 0-2; at 144 lbs, sophomore Brendan Egan went 1-2; junior Lachlan Buttle at 165 lbs. 0-2; junior Jordan Couture at 215 lbs., 0-2; and senior Gabe Mosely at 285 lbs, 0-2.
According to coach, Mark Williams, “All three champions wrestled some of their best matches of the season today, especially Manny Perez winning the tournament in overtime.”
The Lancers will compete in four more dual meets before the Division I State Championship, which will take place in Londonderry on Saturday, Feb. 17.
